  • Salmon river
    The Salmon River is a tributary of the Saint-François River and flows successively through several municipalities.
  • Winter activities
    The park has recently opened a classic cross-country path that extends almost all the way along the multipurpose path from early December until the thaw period in March.
  • Hiking trail
    The park offers an 8.3km beginner-level stone path. Completely located in nature, the path allows everyone ranging from families to seniors as well as seasoned hikers to enjoy it.

A revitalizing hike in nature

There are three parking lots for this nature hike where the forest and fauna promise you a pleasant experience.
Three points of entry are available to you:
  • Walter-MacKenzie Park in Scotstown
  • Gazebo in front of the ruisseau McLeod outlet in Hampden on Chemin Franceville
  • Halte de la colonie de Franceville in front of the entrance of the Franceville sector of the Mont- Mégantic national park

Safety instructions

  • Dial 9-1-1
  • If minor injury in the summer season, go to Camping de la Rivière Étoilée located at 11, rue du Parc in Scotstown or to Mont-Mégantic National Park in the Franceville sector located at 520, chemin de Franceville.
  • Locate yourself from the kilometre markers along the trail.
  • Note that the cellular network is accessible throughout the park.

The weather and outdoor activities

  • Check the weather before your departure in order to plan the necessary equipment to cope with bad weather.
  • Provide a snack and water in sufficient quantity for the duration of your outing.
  • Wear fitted clothing and a hat or cap and shoes suitable for the activity.
  • Bring insect repellent and sunscreen.
  • Allergy sufferers should also always carry their epipen in their bag.

Obstacles on the trail

  • Contact the park as soon as a problem on the trail is observed.
  • The trail is immediately closed from the beginning of the thaw period (March) until the Friday of the weekend of Patriot’s Day (3rd weekend of May) to preserve the trail. The trail is also closed during the hunting season, from Thanksgiving (mid-October) to early December.
